Connecting rooms with color

Who doesn’t love a house that is filled with timeless decorations and fun paint colors?

While it can be invigorating to fill a home with your favorite colors, said colors don’t always go together. When you choose multiple, varying shades of color from different palettes, it can cause separation of your rooms and create an overall disjointed feeling in your home.

Here are a few of the techniques we use at Color Expressions Painting to connect the spaces in your home.

Create a Flow

At Color Expressions Painting, we work with you to choose colors that relate to each other, creating a visually pleasing flow throughout your home.

Select a Theme

A fun way to achieve a cohesive feeling in your home is to choose a single color to spread throughout all the spaces. You can choose one unifying element that will be present in each room.

This could be through an accent wall, trim, or even furniture and accessories.

Another way to accomplish this is using different amounts and intensities of the same color in different rooms.

Repeat Colors

If you have an open floor plan, you may assume that you need to paint every room the same color since the rooms are visibly connected. You could, but you can still achieve a unified look without doing that.

We will help you choose two or three colors that go together to use in different amounts in each room. No room will look exactly the same, but they will all have the same color palette.

Paint the Trim

Having uniform trim is an easy way to have a home that flows. Pick a shade of white that works well with the wall colors you’ve chosen. Some whites work well with soft colors while clashing with bolder colors.

You can have a connected home that flows without choosing the same bland neutral color. Don’t get us wrong, we love a good neutral, but not on every wall in your house. There are so many ways to create a cohesive look and feel while still having fun and pulling in color. Remember, repetition is the key.

Choose two or three colors you adore (that go together) and continually use them in each space. All you have to do is vary the way you use them. Call Color Expressions Painting today; we would love to help you pick out the perfect palette for your home!
